39 - Twan - Germany
Twan lives in Detmold and is a graphic designer and illustrator.
Welcome Twan from Detmold, Germany! Twan is a graphic designer and illustrator and enjoys traveling in her camper van, cooking, discovering flea markets and thrift shopping. You can find her 1200 square foot apartment on Instagram.
How would you describe your style?
I buy what I like - mostly second hand - and it often turns out to be a mixture of mid-century, 70’s/80’s and japandi. So you can find neutral tones in combination with organic shapes and materials as wood or tubular steel in our home.
When did you become interested in design?
I’ve always been interested in design, especially interior design. But growing up in humble circumstances every furniture piece had to be functional rather than aesthetic. So I kept on dreaming to create my own space by flipping through hundreds of Ikea catalogues. As I moved into my first apartment, I started thrifting and realizing that furnishing spaces doesn’t have to be expensive. It just takes time to find the right items and a lot of rearrangement sessions - sometimes even in the middle of the night.
Where do you find inspiration?
Mainly from the interior community on instagram and by strolling through thrift shops and fleamarkets. I am really good at finding vintage stuff we don’t need or have space for.
Twan’s Favorite Items
Goldkant cocoon pendant lamp. I had my eye on it for a long long time. As soon as I got my first job, I couldn’t help but buy.
Lübke Circo chairs. They gathered dust in an old man's basement for decades. I grabbed them via kleinanzeigen for only a total of 20€, not knowing I got hold of design treasures.
Wooden chair in the bedroom. Fell in love with the chunky and timeless shape. And the best part is: I got it for free.
Almost every vintage Ikea piece. Right now on my wishlist: The Wavy Ikea Flatware from the 80s.
